250,000 apps for the iOS

iTunes App Store has reached another milestone and this time its the quarter million mark that has been achieved. It took 25 months and 50,300 developers for Apple to reach here and this is only a small testimony of the traction that iOS (formerly iPhone OS) has managed. Some statistics about these apps:

  • 70% are paid apps (compared to 36% on Android Market)
  • Books apps 17%
  • Games apps 14%
  • Entertainment apps 11%, followed by Education, Lifestyle and Travel

Inspired by the market Apple created is a long list of application stores by Google’s Android, Nokia, Samsung and others. Will the Apple iAd platform create a similar effect?
