Saying Goodbye To CAPTCHA

CAPTCHA is an acronym for Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart. It was a means to an end for preventing large-scale automated spam. CAPTCHA showed distorted text which a robot cannot decipher. These distorted texts or images were usually placed at the end of registration forms etc without which you could not proceed. CAPTCHA is a computer program that checks if you are a human or not and prevents spam and malware which might extract data from the site.

Google has now developed a smarter software that uses simple tick-boxes to prove if the user is a human or a robot. Googles new alternative has been termed as NoCAPTCHA or reCAPTCHA which uses tick boxes and images instead of the distorted text previously used. It has been specifically designed so as to block spam without interfering with our work.

In a recent blog post, the developers of the software explained how CAPTCHA traditionally relied on the inability of robots to decipher distorted text and images. However, due to recent developments in artificial intelligence technology robots are now able to solve even the most distorted text with near perfect accuracy. They concluded by saying that distorted text alone was no longer a viable solution to prevent spam.

reCAPTCHA will use a pictorial test to verify if a given user is a robot or a human and this new software is also more conducive to use on Smartphones Several leading websites such as WordPress and Snapchat have already adopted the new reCAPTCHA system.
