Verizon has kicked off a campaign promoting the upcoming smartphone ‘Droid’. Expected to go on sale sometime in November, the Droid is Verizon’s response to the Apple iPhone. The advertising campaign ‘Droid Does’ has been targeting the iPhone drawbacks aggressively on the web aswell as television. And to fuel the fire we have a series of leaks by BGR, that shows off the Android OS 2.0 and the Motorola Sholes that we saw earlier. Sholes is branded as Droid by Verizon and the early review looks positive. Both Verizon and Motorola are certainly betting big on this one.

The Droid Does video:

Android 2.0 / MotoDroid screenshots:

Droid runs a TI OMAP3430 processor which is much faster than the ARM11 CPUs that all other Android devices currently use. The TI OMAP3430 brings Droid’s performance to the level of the iPhone 3GS and the Palm Pre. Though the UI powering Droid is the stock Android 2.0, this might well be THE iPhone competitor based on Android. According to BGR this is the sleekest sliding keyboard device they have handles and just a little more thicker than the 3G S. And after seeing this, I sure would repeat myself about the Morrison / Cliq – its UGLY :P
