Another super Android arrives in India: HTC Desire

It has been literally raining high-class Android phones in India over the past few weeks. We have had the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S, the Motorola XT720 and Backflip, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro, and the HTC Wildfire making their presence felt in the Indian markets, and now yet another terrific Android device has joined them – the HTC Desire, which has come to India in collaboration with TATA DOCOMO.

Considered to be one of the most powerful (and pretty snazzy looking) smartphones around, the Desire. And while its blend of plastic and metal will turn heads, we must confess to being very impressed by the specs too – a 3.7 inch touchscreen with 480 x 800 WVGA resolution, a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, 512 MB ROM, 576 MB RAM, support for upto 32GB of storage space, a 5.0-megapixel camera with autofocus, every connectivity option in town and Android 2.1 topped off by HTC’s spectacular (if battery guzzling) Sense interface on top.

All for a market operator’s price of Rs 28,900, which struck us as being a bit on the higher side, as it gets right alongside the Galaxy S, the XT 720 and the not-to-be-disregarded Milestone. However, DOCOMO have sweetened the package by offering its postpaid subscribers who get the phone subscribers free data download of 500 MB per month for six months. Now we are talking. Watch this space for a review. We are meanwhile watching the Android party in India really heat up. Bring on the Droid 2, Moto.

  • True. Sense makes it so much better! I’m going with the desire without a doubt. But as it turns out, none of the HTC resellers in Delhi actually have it in store till now.

  • I just bought HTC Desire last week.. In MUmbai.. guess what I upgraded it to FROYO as well!!! Its an amazing phone .. SENSE UI just got better.. something that Milestone Xperia and GAlaxy lack very badly!!!!

  • I am planning to buy a htc desire very soon. Just a small bit of confusion whether to go for desire or galaxy s. Both have equal specs to pull buyers and some cons. For ex: desire doesnt have a front facing camera which is getting fuelled by the 3G connections to be introduced in india very soon. On the other hand galaxy S doent have a flash for its camera. But it think i will go for a desire as of today. Any comments….
