App wars: More Android stores in the making?
December 28th, 2009 by Kunal
Till now, Google’s Android Market and Motorola’s SHOP4APPS are the two Android stores known with Android Market already live and SHOP4APPS still in testing. Apparently, rumors of two new android stores are making news. The rumor has it that Sony Ericsson and General Mobile are developing their own android stores.
Sony Ericsson recently announced that they would be accepting application from developers to be sold on PlayNow for their upcoming Xperia X10. General Mobile is also working on their own android application store, dubbed Storeoid. With Andoid Market going 20k strong and support from three more Android application stores, the Andoid OS would hope to stand against the Apple app store, however I feel that fragmenting the distribution isn’t helping them for sure. One key advantage Apple has is simplicity and one single point for all apps & media – iTunes!
