Apple Files Preliminary Injunction in US Against the SIII, Samsung Says Launch As Per Plan

In an expected move Apple has filed preliminary injunction against the Samsung Galaxy SIII in the US, stating that it infringes on two key patents owned by them. This is in addition to the already preliminary injunction Apple has already filed against the Galaxy Nexus in the US.

The two important patents here in question are,

  1. Unified search i.e. Siri
  2. Data tapping

Apple is also said to be analyzing other two patents, which are slide to unlock and the auto complete patent as well for further potential infringements.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is slated to release somewhere in the last week of June in the United States. Meanwhile, Samsung has stated that the litigation filed by Apple is “without merit” and they intend to go ahead with the sales of the SIII in the US as the planned schedule.

Samsung has also stated that they will “vigorously oppose” any patent litigations filed against them in the courts. More importantly, Samsung also states that Apple is adding to the Galaxy nexus injunction, which was filed way back in February and hence it is too late to make any additions to it. And if now Apple, intends to seek an injunction against the SIII they will have to go ahead and file a new preliminary injunction against them.

Now, we need to see what is the court’s decision on the matter and if they accept the addition to the petition or indeed ask Apple to file a fresh patent litigation against the Galaxy SIII. If that is the case then, there are chances that a decision will be made on the matter way after the release of the smartphone in the US. For now, let’s wait and watch.
