Apple iPhone 4 Supply In Hong Kong Normalizes, India Launch Promised

Apple iPhone 4 India

Yes you read it right. Its iPhone 4 we are still talking about. In between the iPad 2 launch updates and iPhone 4 rumors, it seems that iPhone 4 has its own little updates to amuse us. Apparently after hiccups in Hong Kong, the iPhone 4 situation is back to normality. Given that HK probably sells unlocked iPhone 4 at the cheapest rate globally, there are many who take this opportunity to export them off to mainland China or countries like India at a huge premium. For once Apple even had to stop the sale of iPhone 4 in Hong Kong.

However the situation is back in control as it seems and the HK shipping on the Apple site now dows 5-7 days, against few weeks earlier. Perhaps this is the reason that the iPhone 4 is now being announced (rather promised) for India as well. For products like the Apple iPad and iPhone, India has been a low priority market for Apple primarily as the global demand for these products are higher than their manufacturing strength. Thus the bigger markets get them earlier. Though we are happy to see the Macbook Pro, iPod touch, Macbook Air etc coming to India along with international release.

Bharti Airtel will launch iPhone 4 in India in the coming months. #facepalm

Close to a year after iPhone 4’s global release, two Indian operators have promised availability in ‘coming months’. Either this is a big validation of the rumor that the iPhone 5 isn’t coming in June/July or its an iPad like scenario where the Indian release is less than 2 months before the next generation comes out globally. Technically Apple still sells the 3GS globally and the 4 doesn’t get out dates in a couple of month as a standalone smartphone, but the tech junta in India surely isn’t amused. “Coming Months” isn’t very encouraging, as one of our friends asks on Facebook, Dear Airtel / Aircel how do you define coming months?

PS: Anyone notes Vodafone missing here? We have in past witnessed them pushing Blackberry against iPhone. Aren’t they buying the iPhone 4 hype?
