Apple now has its own mobile ad network: Acquires Quattro

January 6th, 2010 by Annkur

While the news had hit silicon valley well in advance, here is the official confirmation that Apple has gobbled up Quattro. Its no wonder that Apple is trying to reduce its dependence on Google and with the largest mobile ad network powering App Store apps (AdMob) being acquired by Google, Apple now has Quattro as a backup.

Apple has uncovered an amazing second source of income from its smartphones using the iTunes App Store. With Google’s bet on Android relying on the growth prospect of Mobile advertising (also given the fact that the mobile advg industry size is estimated at $1 billion already), Apple sees an opportunity aswell. Quattro’s technology can target ad campaigns based on consumer demographics, location, time of day and other factors. With the information Apple has about you (via your iTunes account or otherwise); Quattro’s can work really well. We have also seen Apple in works to develop its own maps application which is sure to find its place in future iPhones, replacing the Google maps. Exciting times ahead in the smartphone race for sure!

Here is the Press Release:
