Apple sued, again! This time touchscreen technology
April 10th, 2009 by Kunal

After being sued for promoting iPhone as e-book reader, using camera sensor technology and over screen’s rendering process, this time its for infringing multi-touch patents.
Elan Microelectronics, a Taiwan based company, has sued Apple for infringing its two multi-touch patents. The company has filed a suit against Apple in the U.S. District Court at San Francisco. The company said that they have been negotiating with Apple for the last two years over licensing the technology. Elan Microelectronics’s Dennis Liu said, “”We couldn’t find a common viewpoint with Apple, so we decided we had to take action”.
The first patent in conflict is the U.S. Patent 5,825,352 , which relates to using two or more fingers for giving an input to a touch-screen. Apple has been using this multi-touch function in iPhone and MacBook Pro.
Other, U.S. Patent No. 7,274,353, relates to using touch to switch between text and handwriting input modes. This is too used in the iPhone.
And, we already know that Apple too has patented Multi-touch. Now whether the mistake is Apple’s or the Patent office is to be decided by the court.

I work at Japatent.com as a Japanese patent translator and last year was busy translating patents and other IP documents related to the infringement of Japanese patents by the iPhone user interface. Seems like everyone is attempting to cash in on Apple’s success.
Thats the price which the giants like Apple and Intel have to pay for their success
