AT&T has announced its new Zero charger that is expected to save some energy without requiring any fancy gadgetry. The charger completely eliminates the “Vampire draw” or the energy drawn by the charger when not in use. The charger stops drawing any power when the phone is fully charged or when there is no phone plugged in to the charging cord.
The charger is USB compatible and would ship in a recycled-cardboard container. Apart from saving energy, it would also save the phone’s battery from being damaged due to over charging. AT&T has not announced the pricing of the device yet. It is expected to be available in May 2010.
