BlackBerry To Pull Out Of the Japanese Market

BlackBerry sure seems to have grand plans with its brand new OS 10 powered BlackBerry Z10. Japan however isn’t a part of that plan. The Nikkei has in a report just confirmed that BlackBerry has decided to stop selling its devices in the country. This also means that the Z10 would not land in the Japanese market in the forseeable future.

The reason for the pullout is that Japan is too small a market for BlackBerry and the company cannot justify the cost of modifying its new BlackBerry 10 OS for the Japanese market. The marketshare for BlackBerry in the highly developed Japanese market stands at a mere 0.3 percent.

Existing BlackBerry users in the country however need not worry as the company will continue to support old BlackBerry users in the country. BlackBerry has also confirmed the news about its exit from Japan in a statement to Engadget which reads thus:

“We are in the process of launching BlackBerry 10 globally in key markets and we are seeing positive demand for the BlackBerry Z10 in countries where it has already launched. Japan is not a major market for BlackBerry and we have no plans to launch BlackBerry 10 devices there at this time. However, we will continue to support BlackBerry customers in Japan”
