One of the biggest hit of the latest MWC in Barcelona and the Platinum Event Sponsor; the Windows Phone 7 paired with the LG is finally gearing up to be rolled out. As the reports flowing in from Engadget Chinese suggest that they are readying the phone to be shipped as early as September. This was apparently confirmed by officials at LG Mobile HongKong during the Chinese New Year event. Though LG has kept the suspense going by just stating that the phone will be dished out somewhere between September and November.
Given the current market scenario with Android, iPhone, Palm and others making rapid updates, Microsoft will sure hope that the new OS doesn’t get any more delayed. For LG they would hope to be the first one to roll out a Windows Phone 7 series device.

Microsoft has finally announced and showed off their next mobile operating system with a bit different brand name – Windows Phone 7 Series. Apart from sleek and staid interface, there are several features integrated to the core level. But surprisingly two significant features at the core level – Flash, multi-tasking are missing. To be honest, these were the two features that every mobile enthusiast was looking forward to in Windows Phone 7 Series OS. Nevertheless, this mobile operating system would be made available to consumers only by this year end – Holiday Season.
If you haven’t followed till now, read again – Windows Phone 7 series doesn’t support Flash as of now i.e. in first version of the operating system. Again, in the Question & Answer session, Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft said, “No objection to Flash”. That leaves us wondering if Microsoft is doing a Apple gig here by not supporting Flash on it.
Charlie Kindel, Windows Home Server General Manager, wrote about the stuff that was expected to be detailed but wasn’t at the Windows Phone 7 Series launch. There’s a whole bunch of stuff we did not announce today. Specifically we did not announce anything about building applications & games for the new Windows Phone 7 Series operating system. We did this because (more…)

By the first looks of it,I thought this was some new nail polish bottle. After taking a closer look at it I realised that this ones got a wired tail and it is a digital music player. Now Samsung has introduced the new TicToc player that does all the functions of an MP3 player with just a single button and an accelerometer. The player has no display and is as sleek as its closest compeditor – the iPod Shuffle.
The device has a smart accelerometer sensor that changes track. A slow shake would line-up a slow song while a vigorous shake would play a fast one. The only key on the player acts as both the power button and the volume control key. Holding the player upside down with the key pressed reduces the volume and vice versa. (more…)

Japan is all set to implement an idea that has been tossed around for almost the past four decades – space-based solar power. The proposed power plant in space is said to cost a whooping US$21 billion, and will develop power using solar energy to generate one gigawatt of energy (enough to power 294,000 homes). The energy developed will then be transmitted wirelessly to Earth.
Mitsubishi Electric Corp. and industrial design company IHI Corp. have teamed up to develop a technology that will transmit the power generated without the use of wires. Mitsubishi and IHI will be a part of a research group, along with 14 other global companies, to create the four square kilometer space power station in the next three decades. Japan also plans to test a small prototype of the ‘power plant’ by 2015.
The project though, will have to go through many hurdles. These include the high transportation costs of (more…)

Janta,
We have our first victim of brutal coverage and thats me! Guess the tough routine of the job we do (covering each and every inch of TechFest totaling to over 16 hours a day) has hit me harder than expected this time. Without complaining much of my ill-health let me give you the good news that OGz Editor Tassavur Shaikh is still out there covering the fest to the fullest, while I sink in some more painkillers and prepare for the Finalle (Day 3).
Though a little delayed, our coverage shall continue..

2008 has been a fantastic year for OnlyGizmos and personally for our team members. With all the time we spent together running around for coverage and at the same time managing our slim finances; we seem to have grown several years older
Here are some of our best moments of 2008, thank you for all the love and support:

- The year started on a high with excellent coverage of the IIT TechFest. Jimmy Wales interview and more.
- The OG 1st Anniv in May was memorable and we had 1/3 of a million hits till then
- Our Editor Annkur P Agarwal was invited to write the Cover Story on Gadgets for One India One People, something that makes us feel really special
- Around the same time we also Partnered IIIT Hyderabad RoboCamp
- After hitting several technical issues and a dull phase we managed to shift to WordPress towards the end of the year. Thanks to Asif (Cubex Systems, Pakistan) and OGz Mohit for all the technical support.
- The year had began with another small venture iPhone Help; that was the brain child of our own Piyansh Mantry and Tassavur Shaikh. While OG hit a rough patch IPHelp worked and we are proud that it has made a name for itself. From being a part of OG to being the strongest link of the OG Network
- Another cheer towards the year end was the MPSTME Taqneeq 08, where we were again the official Online Media Partners. We had a wonderful outing, reminded us of the IIT TechFest
