Waterpebble is a unique tiny gadget that monitors the amount of water you consume during a shower and helps you save water. The tiny pebble shaped gizmo placed below your shower checks the water outflow via the plughole. Using your first shower as a benchmark, the waterpebble alerts you using different lights ranking your water usage. So once you have set the benchmark with your first shower, you can use the indicator lights by waterpebble to alert your self and reduce your water wastage. Video demo below

Yes weird as it sounds and geeky for sure! The idea of combining several cellphone displays by just placing them next to each other is certainly impressive and Motoorla is on it (the only problem is I don’t see a very practical use of this). According to this patent (“Reconfigurable Multiple-Screen Display”) filed by Motorola you can stream a video in parts on more than one cellphone at once and thus create a larger output by aligning the displays of these cellphones next to each other. See the diagram below to get some clarity:

So next (more…)

Remember how Munnabhai topped a medical exam, with the help of Dr. Rustom who gave him instructions on the phone while the exam was on! Now such mal-practitioners can be easily noticed in a crowd of candidates. Thanks to the AwareFashion Shirt !!
AwareFashion, a shirt designed by Richard Etter, has a hidden pocket that senses nearby GSM band signals to indicate the cellphones in the proximity of the wearer. The shirt is actually a part of AwareFashion clothes line that are based on the concept of the wearer wanting to get a sense of his immediate digital environment.

When the shirt detects the switched-on cellphones in the proximity of the wearer, the small LED lights at the end of the sleeve glow up to indicate the presence of the phone that is active. How does that happen (more…)

The Honda 3R-C is a three wheeled concept vehicle just announced before the Geneva Motor Show. The concept vehicle will be on display along with the EV-N concept which makes it European debut. The vehicle tries to give us a glimpse of ehat the future mode of transport for individuals might look like. Its got a battery electric drivetrain mounted very low in its chassis maintaining a low centre of gravity and improving stability in the process.
The 3R-C has a clear canopy which covers the drivers seat while not in use and then acts as a windshield for the driver while driving. The sides of the safety shell are sufficiently high to protect the driver from accidents or impacts from the sides, also sheltering from the weather at the same time. What more it gives you sufficient and secure storage space as well. Great bike I must say. Wondering how much will this one cost.

One block of these can power 4 to 6 Indian homes or one home in the UK whereas you put the two together and its ready to power an American home. Thats the power of the Bloom box created by K.R. Sridhar a NASA scientist and the founder of Bloom Energy. As per the interview given to 60 Minutes, Sridhar confesses that this was an oxygen generating project built for the Mars project which didnt happened. So he reversed the process and now he can generate electricity. The process is carbon neutral. That brings us to the question: So how does he manage to do this? (more…)

While onlygizmos has been covering a lot of green technology of late. Here is another one that has caught our attention. This one looks like a normal backpack (durable more importantly) but upon closer inspection you might realise that it has a solar panel attached to it. Must say that its a really good effort for the bag to look so clean and durable even after being fitted with solar panels. See the below image for more info:
The solar panel is easily detachable from the backpack and can also be used as a carry bag separately. There is no pricing information available for this one on their website.

Are you the one who is not happy with their weight? (To tell you the truth mostly all of us aren’t). We usually tend to avoid stepping on the weighing scale fearing the worst. Well heres one way to ensure that you step on one daily. Its the door mat (door mat again!) or a rug that comes fitted with a digital glowing scale that shows the user’s previous weight, present weight, and goal weight. Its designed by Kwon Sunman, wonder what was the inspiration behind this one! Though by the looks of it, its much more cosy and comfortable than the traditional ones. Also you do have the option to detach the rug for cleaning purposes or attaching a new one as per your taste.
Right now this is just a concept. Would definitely like to have one though when its ready…

Remember that weird (futuristic) transparent AMOLED laptop that Samsung displayed at CES this year? Now the news on it is that the company is actually planning to launch it within a year.

And not just that, Samsung actually wants to create a separate category of products having the transparent screen and plans to launch several such products next year. Also there are rumors of a transparent navigation device that Samsung plans to mount on the car windshields.
My views on this weird laptop form factor with a transparent display still remain the same : it’s simply has no practical use! I mean, obviously this looks cool but it also allows people around you to see what work you are doing. So that clearly violates your own privacy. And then, there are issues of it’s usability in the direct sunlight. At the max, you can play music, games or do some casual work on it. You surely won’t spend your hard-earned bucks only to play music while you show off the gorgeous transparent screen. Will you?
As for the transparent navigation device that Samsung plans to mount on the car windshields. It makes a lot of sense, given that this technology would aid a situation where we are discussing in-car screens, that would not distract the drivers attention from the road ahead (atleast not completely).

Nokia has said RIP to Gage for sure, but you never know whats really cooking in Finland. Nokia might well be planning some cool gaming phones that could match up with the challenge thrown by the iPhone / Android and lately Palm. What we have here is the Ovi Orion concept that is a gaming touchscreen and by the looks of it, it sure is sporty! Recombu Orion concept is loaded with a ‘killer’ CPU/GPU, 4.3″ touchscreen, a QWERTY with additional one line display on the back and gaming controls (along with the usual suspects like the WiFi, Sensors etc).

At OnlyGizmos, we are constantly in search of technologies based on alternative energy sources. Solar, Wind or Hydrogen-powered devices, you name it, we love it. Basically, the idea is to help reduce our dependence on energy from traditional fuels and minimize carbon emissions. Kinetic Energy is another alternative that could potentially be used to charge up our gadgets, by our bodily movements.

When the world is busy shifting to new full touchscreen devices like the iPad, there are a lot of people who still love to type on physical keyboard. For such audience, South Korean company Mobiance have developed a pocket sized keypad called the smallQWERTY.
Although the name does have the words QWERTY in it, the device is more of a traditional keypad used in cellphones. There are eight additional functional buttons to the keypad, four on each side. The user would have to tap button multiple times for typing on this device. The developers of the keypad have not revealed any technical specifications of the device. Which means, the connectivity mode used and the compatibility of the keypad is not known for now. Also, there is no news on its pricing and availability.
One thing I would certainly like to see is myself typing on an iPad using my Nokia E63 or perhaps more realistically the iPhone!
