Cellphone addicted Spanish Kids admitted to ‘Mental Health Institute’
June 14th, 2008 by Annkur

We still don’t know if Karnataka Govt’s plan to ban Mobile for Kids is justified, but here is a case where parents have sent their kids to a ‘Mental Health Institute’ just to treat their cellphone addiction. Apparently these two kids from Spain (aged 12 & 13) are so badly addicted to their mobiles that they have been lying to their relatives for money – only to spend it on their mobiles.
Dr Maite Utges, who runs the Child and Youth Mental Health Centre in Lleida, near Barcelona in north-eastern Spain, said it was the first time the clinic had treated children who were dependent on their mobile phones.
“They both showed disturbed behaviour and this exhibited itself in failure at school. They both had serious difficulties leading normal lives,” she was quoted in Spanish papers as saying.
