Here are some interesting facts showing how fast the mobile industry is griping the communications marketshare. According to figures released by China Mobile:
- its subscribers sent 607.1 billion text messages in 2008
- it now has 464 million subscribers out of the total 650 million mobile subscribers in China
- it sold 76 million full-track music downloads in 2008
- another 41.5 million paid for mobile newspaper content, up a third over 2007 totals–the carrier now offers 110 different news periodicals.
China Mobile has been actively monetizing digital content; apparently China Mobile’s demand for a share of AppStore app sales lead to the fallout with Apple. Resulting in the absence of iPhone 3G from China!
