Dell offering Ubuntu preloaded in Notebooks and Desktops
April 28th, 2008 by Annkur

Dell, one of the best computer manufactures is now offering variety of computers with Linux operating system preloaded.
Dell business computers are now packed with Linux operating system. Ubuntu was the Linux operating system that is preloaded in Dell computers. Ubuntu is a free & open source Linux OS. Very often Ubuntu is releasing latest version of their OS.
Ubuntu is a community developed Linux operating system. Ubuntu ships the older version of OS in the form cds for free. All you need is a mail id & an address. You can order not one or two cds, up to 25 cds in a single order. I personally ordered a 25 cd pack & distributed to all my friends.

This is the first time a branded computer company is offering Linux preloaded. All these days only Microsoft’s operating systems like Microsoft Xp or Microsoft Vista are available pre-packed in computers. These computer which comes with preloaded Linux OS, will have basic applications like, open office, music players, web browsers, etc, also many applications are available over the internet for free in case of Linux. So users can make use of free resources without hesitation for buying any software packages. Currently 90% of world’s computer runs on Microsoft OS. Now due to this trend, the ratio might change and one day Linux (or maybe Mac) user will be equal to Microsoft OS users. |
