Dell shows but hides its tablet running Android at CES

January 8th, 2010 by Kunal

Is it a phone? a tablet? no its the Dell slate!

Like everyone else in the tech industry, Dell is also working on a tablet PC. Now Dell sure brought the Android tablet at CES 2010 happening at Las Vegas, but they are hiding it from the general audience. Only a few, including Engadget, got the chance to spend a minute or two with the Dell Slate.

Dell is calling its 5″ tablet the Dell Slate, reminding us of the rumored name of the Apple tablet – iSlate. The Dell Slate is powered by the Android OS. Apart from the name, the OS, 5MP camera and the 5″ display, Dell is keeping everything else a secret. There are rumors of the device having a SIM card slot too. But those are unconfirmed as of now. Dell also confirmed that they are also working on other screen sizes for the device, but we are unsure as to what gap a 5″ tablet would fill when smartphones with 4″ are already being offered

An undersized tablet or an oversized cellphone, the device is a symbol of the beginning of the era of tablets. There is no word on the cost of the device.
