eBay to introduce Skype IPO in 2010

After too many speculations of buyback of Skype by its original founders, eBay has decided to finally put an end to the rumors. Last week there were rumors that the founders of Skype Niklas Zennstrom and Janus Friis, have offered eBay $2 billion to buyback Skype. eBay bought the same Skype from them for $3.1 billion in 2005.
eBay has now finally decided that it will not be selling Skype, instead skype will be a separate unit in the eBay’s portfolio. Skype will have its own IPO in 2010 according to eBay. The announcement came on this Tuesday through eBay’s website.
Skype has been a profitable part of eBay’s portfolio till now. The revenues generated last year were $551 million last year. The registered users have increased 1.5 times in 2007-08 to 405 million. Skype app for the iPhone was unveiled recently which is an instant hit and Nokia is in talks to integrate it in all its upcoming smartphones.
