Event Roundup – Taqneeq 2008 @ MPSTME
December 15th, 2008 by Annkur

The entire team of OG has a wonderful weekend while attending the two day Techfest – TaqNeeq. In its very first technical event the students at MPSTME + CSI have done a splendid job. The event was indeed planned meticulously and implemented effortlessly all by the students themselves.
Highlights @ Taqneeq 08
- Lectures – Vijay Mukhi (Internet Guru), Louis Pereira (M&M), Saurabh Srivastava (Tata Communications)
- Workshops - Microsoft Workshop, Linux Workshop, Production phase – Entrepreneurial Workshop, Salsa workshop
- Competitions – Blog it up, Shape your product, Hardware Junkyard, Technomaze, Contemporary Writing, Cover the fest, LAN Gaming
- Initiatives - A street play on AIDS Awareness and anti-tobacco campaign
- Entertainment – Retro Game

Mr Louis Perira (Mahindra and Mahindra)
The lectures by prominent personalities was something the students were captivated with. The students were treated by a wonderful lecture by MR Vijay Mukhi on the first day of the fest. He spoke about Functional programming and multicore architecture – Highlighting that the industry is rapidly moving towards Functional Programming. Amongst others were Mr Louis Pereira (Mahindra & Mahindra) and Mr. Saurabh Srivastava (Tata Communications).
Some of the most innovative and testing competitions at Taqneeq were Hardware Junkyard, Technomaze and Shape your product.
A robotics race (the robots here reminds me of Prison Break @ IITB) was also conducted at Taqneeq which saw good participation from colleges all over Mumbai. The circuit was build of three different terrains.
LAN Gaming was an instant hit with large number of Counter Strike commandos lining up for the event. OG backed team coordinated by our own Harshad Patil took away the honours with the first place! Cheers
Retro Game was also one event which refreshed old memories and brought back our childhood to life as it consisted of all the 16 bits game we used to play as a child (read mario, pacman, bomberman etc).
The one that we liked the most was the Hardware Junkyard, wherein participants were provided with all kinds of junk ranging from cardboard, woodplanks to water bottles and digital gadgets (no, not in working condition). They were required to make something creative as per the theme provided. The themes given were unity, fire, motion and defense. We saw all kind of creations from the participants ranging from a “fire propelled rocket” to the “Boat of humanity“.

Shape your product was an interesting event with the participants required to design a vehicle for a given scenario. The OG team again participated in this event with a Military Vehicle – But you can see how badly we missed photoshop
The technical fest was diversified with healthy social integration. A salsa basics workshop and Anti Aids / Tobacco drive was conducted.

OG Editor – Tassavur Shaikh – Shaking a leg at the Salsa Workshop
Special mention must be made of Divi Khanna (Event head), Abhinav Jauhri (Super-Jauhri) & Triparna Chakravorty who coordinated the team efficiently.
