G-Fone G588: Dual-sim Blackberry lookalike in India

If you wish to own an affordable BlackBerry with dual-sim, then you know that it would never happen. Unless, you could rather switch to a BlackBerry lookalike which boasts of some decent features while being pocket friendly. G-Fone has launched its latest full QWERTY dual-sim handset in India called the G588.

G588 supports both GSM+GSM and GSM+CDMA dual-sim combination. The phone features a full QWERTY keyboard, 2.2″ QVGA display, 1.3 MP camera, Bluetooth and expandable memory upto 8GB. The multimedia options include FM radio and MP3 player.

Opera Mini browser, e-mail client and social networking application Nimbuzz which comes pre-installed on the phone. The phone also features an Indian Calender which contains information about all the Hindu rituals and festivals. I would still wait for a hands on with the OS to ensure I don’t run into something like the V1675 again!

It is available in India for a price of Rs 4,799 INR (about $105).

The site URL is mentioned at the end of the article. Though the phone cannot be purchased online, the contact details of the manufacturer is available on their website.

The company website do not provide information about any retailers. In local shops there is no information about any G-fone model. Most of the local shops mix up G-Fone with a Chinese company ‘G-five’. In their website all the contact email ID are wrong except the service enquiry mail ID. This Bright Telecom India looks really fictitious. What is the use of making such noise all over the internet if they do not have the intention to sell the product ? I am eagerly waiting for the hands on review from ‘Only Gizmos’ for their G-588 model.

dont go for it March 26, 2010 at 4:44 pm

Poor sound OF voice on call.
poor quality of earphones(worst just broke in one day) returned to the shopkeeper.
poor battery back up. if charge it in the morning. dead in the evening.
worst OS. tried to increase the menu items by repeating the same item. like indian calendar, tasks Alarm, world clock,,Stop watch VIDEO PLAYER, CAMERA is given in organizer, extra and Multimedia and as direct menu items . all submenu items as main menu items. . only 250 kb inbuilt memory. no themes. waste of money. dont go for it.

Hi All

This phone is absolute crap and i do repent now for buying this handset. This phone has no features working like push mail and many other things. You can’t find a reply option for your incoming message. The most important issue is their after sales service.

I am suffering a lot in searching for its accessories. Power goes off in between a call and no response from their service centers by mail or phone as the nearest service center to me is some 90 Kms.

I am worried for its battery and ear phone voice quality as i am unable to get them. Battery lasts for few hrs and my phone is only 45 days old.
