Google effect on Server Designs
December 30th, 2008 by Annkur
I came across an interesting post on GigaOm highlighting Google’s influence on new age server designs. The Google architecture is one of the key reasons for the search engines success. Their custom server desings and software make things several times cheaper and effecient than the competition.
The note highlights that server makers like Rackable Systems are inspired by the Google approach and are making similar efforts.
the emergence of these Google-inspired servers, which include features such as heat-tolerant processors to save on cooling costs, a focus on motherboards containing 12v-only power supplies for servers, putting two servers on one board and stripping out unnecessary parts. [GigaOm]
Effeciency is the key objective with these ‘low power consuming’ and ’space saving’ servers. Techies can surely take an advice from here as they gear up to innovate the future!
