In August, Google Pixel 2 smartphone had received approval from Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the U.S. and now the larger Pixel XL 2 smartphone has been certified by FCC. Since the Pixel 2 duo have been certified by FCC, it appears that these smartphones would be debuting soon. Moreover, a billboard that has been spotted in Boston, U.S. with a date of 4th October indicates that the upcoming Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 smartphones would be unveiling on the said date.
The FCC documents for the Pixel 2 had revealed plenty of details of the smartphone. However, the FCC filing of the Pixel XL 2 has not revealed any information on the specifications of the smartphone. The only way to confirm that it is the Pixel XL 2 is from its model number of G011C.3
The FCC listing of Pixel 2 had revealed its model number as G011A and it had also confirmed that HTC is manufacturing it. Usually, the FCC ID of a device consists of two parts namely, a Grantee Code which reveals the name of the manufacturer and a product code. The FCC ID of the Pixel XL 2 is ZNFG011C where ZNF is the Grantee Code of LG and G011C is the product code or model number.
What about G011B model number? HTC was rumored to build the Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 smartphones that were respectively codenamed as Walleye and Muskie. However, recent reports have revealed that HTC-made Muskie has been cancelled and Google has reportedly partnered with LG to manufacture the smartphone. LG’s Pixel XL 2 is said to be codenamed as Taimen.
Even though HTC and LG are speculated to be respectively manufacturing the Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 smartphones, these devices will be sold as “madebyGoogle” devices. As mentioned above, the specifications of Pixel XL 2 have not been revealed through its FCC filing. The only thing that can be known about the handset apart from its maker and model number is that it does not support the latest LTE band 71 from T-Mobile.
Google Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL Specifications and Launch Date
The rumor mill has revealed that the Pixel 2 will be coming with a 4.97-inch FHD OLED display. On the other side, the Pixel XL 2 is expected to house a 5.99-inch OLED display that will support 1,440 pixels. It is pegged to feature a full screen design like LG V30 and LG G6. Apart from the display, both the Pixel 2 smartphones are tipped to arrive with identical specifications.
Some of the new features that will be arriving on these smartphones include Always-on Display, Android 8.1 Oreo, dual front-facing speakers, and squeezable frame like the one available on HTC U11. Both the phones are unlikely to feature a 3.5mm audio jack.
In 2016, the Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones were unveiled on 4th October. A snapshot of the billboard that can be seen above clearly hints that Google will be holding a launch event on 4th October. It appears that Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 will be announced exactly on the same date as last year.
