HP experimenting with Google OS, head-on with Microsoft
April 6th, 2009 by Kunal

World’s No. 1 PC maker Hewlett-Packard is creating platform for Google to enter the Operating Systems for PC market. Wall street journal reports that HP is considering the Google’s Android OS (currently used for smartphones) for its netbooks. HP has assembled a team of engineers to study if the Google’s Android might work on their PCs.
HP might startup this new experiment by loading Google’s Android on their netbooks. HP already develops customised packages bundled-up with Windows for user friendly video and picture viewing. By using Android, HP would not have to do this plus the mobile connectivity with handsets running Android would also become convenient for users.
Bundling HP with Android would put the software developers to work as the Android market is just at the introduction phase. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has previously affirmed the possibility of Google OS on portables / PC’s and claimed that Microsoft is ready to face the same; however this is the first time that a PC manufacturer has confirmed working on Android OS. If this little experiment works out, we may even see Google competing neck-to-neck with Microsoft in no time.
