Honeycomb 3.1 For Asus EeePad Transformer & Acer Iconia A500 (June)

Acer Iconia A500

Google announced a small update to Android’s tablet avatar Honeycomb at its developer conference IO last week. Honeycomb 3.1 has already started to rollout for owners of Motorola Xoom (Verizon) and the ones buying a Acer Iconia A500 or the Asus Eee Pad Transformer now have an estimate for their update. It is revealed that Honeycomb 3.1 would rollout for these tablets in early June.

Given that Google hasn’t open sourced the Honeycomb version and no major skin has been put on the same by these manufacturers, we would expect the firmware updates to come down quick. We can expect others to either ship with 3. 1 when launched or get an update soon.

Honeycomb 3.1 brings some UI upgrades, performance boost, stretchable widgets and USB peripheral support. Google has also announced Ice Cream Sandwich for year end, merging Android for smartphones and tablets. We would expect some major changes there, but for now the 3.1 brings its own little updates and some more might follow in coming months. Do let us know when you get your tablet updated!
