Gravity Ruler is the name given to a simple bungee cord weighing scale. It comes inside a clear plastic sheath calibrated with measures and an orange band on the cord that slides up / down giving you a rough estimate of how much your luggage weighs.

Air travellers would easily notice its use. Basically, it can be used to weigh pretty much anything that has a handle to which the cord can be hooked up, unless you are worried about to-the-gram accuracy. Its designers Marcella Maltese and Lin Wei ( students of Politecnico di Milano ) sold the initial 35 units in less than an hour at the Travel Trading Fair in Milan. Now they are looking for manufacturers who can mass produce and sell it commercially.
But we see some potential problems here. AsĀ the rubber ages, it will become increasingly weaker and inaccurate and can also be affected by high temperatures. Maybe the designers can give an expiry date on the product, indicating how long the rubber can remain accurate and also the conditions in which the cord must be kept, for it to retain its accuracy.
