HP Kills Palm, WebOS. Looking To Spin PC Division Off

This month is surely turning out to be one of the most eventful ever in the world of mobile telephony. If it was the surprise acquisition of Motorola Mobility by Google last week, it’s now turn of HP to surprise us all with its decision to hive off its entire Mobiles division – that includes the entire ex Palm team who were working on WebOS, the Pre lineup of phones and of course, the HP TouchPad.

Apart from this, HP also added that it will also explore possibilities to hive off its Personal Systems Group and separate it from the parent company. The result could be a full or partial separation. HP said that it “will continue to explore options to optimize the value of WebOS software going forward.”

I am pretty unsure how they plan to do that. We also wonder what Jon Rubinstein is going through at this juncture. It was just over a year ago that HP brought off the ailing Palm and all its assets for $1.2 Billion.

More on this as the story develops. Nevertheless, a truly sad day for all Palm, WebOS lovers out there. You will be missed!
