HTC Legend is the new Hero

HTC Hero, one of the most popular handsets from HTC, now has a successor. HTC Legend comes as no surprise. We have already seen a few snapshots and a complete specification list, leaked back in December. Though the specifications released by HTC are exactly the same as that of the leaked specs, here is a quick look at them -

  • Quad-band GSM/EDGE, dualband WCDMA/HSPA (900/2100)
  • 3.2? HVGA AMOLED capacitive touchscreen
  • Android 2.1
  • 600MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 processor
  • 5 MP camera with auto focus and LED flash
  • WiFi
  • Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR
  • GPS/AGPS, G-sensor, digital compass
  • 3.5 mm audio jack
  • microSD support
  • latest versions of HTC’s People and Footprint
  • micro USB

The advancements from Hero to Legend comes with some essential changes. HTC Legend has a unique design wherein the case is designed using a single aluminum block into a seamless compact frame. This gives the phone quite a smooth finish and a sleek look. It comes bundled with an impressively upgraded Sense UI with Android 2.1. The UI has HTC Friend Stream which allows you to integrate all the social websites together. They have also added various active desktop widgets which give you an  Exposé style helicopter view which will show you all the homescreen panes at once with a pinch zoom. The processor speed has been upgraded to 600MHz, although there were a few last minute speculations of a Snapdragon 1GHz processor. Hero’s trackball has been replaced by an optical joystick which HTC promises to be equally accurate and less vulnerable to damages.

The handset would be available in Europe through Vodafone followed by an early Q2 release in other markets including Asia. It is also rumored to be available next month in USA exclusively on T-Mobile. The pricing details have not been released by HTC. Read the HTC press release on SlashGear for more info.
