With 3G plans getting cheaper, many people are switching from 3G to 2G. To make most of this trend, Idea has introduced two new smartphones – Idea Ultra+ and Idea Fab.

The Idea Ultra+ is a dual-SIM, feature packed, premium looking smartphone with a Leather back finish. It has a 1.3 GHz Quad core processor and comes with 1GB RAM which offers a good experience along with video streaming, browsing, social networking and downloading. The 12.7 cms (5″) screen allows users to enjoy watching videos, pictures and claims to offer an enhanced gaming experience. The 8MP camera helps users capture good images, and the 2000mAh battery seems powerful. The phone is priced at Rs. 8300.

The Idea Fab is launched to target first time smartphone users. This too is a dual-SIM phone which runs on Android Jelly Bean v4.2 OS and is powered by a 1.2 GHz dual core processor. The 3.2MP camera seems primitive and may not produce great quality images. But the phone is priced at just Rs. 4999, so one shouldn’t expect much.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Sashi Shankar, Chief Marketing Officer, Idea Cellular said, “With the mobile phone increasingly becoming the first screen for a majority of users across semi-urban and rural India, Idea has remained focus at proliferating mobile internet through these smart devices by making them available at affordable price points for increased adoption. The new Idea Ultra+ and FAB will offer a wider choice of 3G smartphones in the low to mid segment price category, while giving our users an experience of high-end smartphones.”

Like all other Idea 3G smartphones, the new devices will also come with a special offer for Idea 3G users offering data benefits of 1.6 GB 3G data and Free Idea TV for 3 months, with a pack priced at Rs. 259 for existing subscribers, and the same plan at Rs. 261 for new subscribers. It remains to be seen if these plans will tempt users to buy the phones.
