IE flaws give hackers access to Windows systems
July 9th, 2009 by Kunal

Hackers have found a new way to get into the PCs of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 using a hole through the Internet Explorer. The bug allows hackers to remotely control the PCs of the IE users.
The infection looks quite serious as the user just has to visit a website to fall prey to the hackers. The links included in spam have been giving criminals an easy access to the victim’s PC for the past week or so.
The flaw happens to be in the ActiveX controls of video playback for the Internet Explorer users. Microsoft has asked the users to disable the ActiveX in their browsers. Microsoft is also recommending theusers of other versions of Windows to do the same until Microsoft releases a fix for the same.
The ActiveX can be disabled manually by using a set of instructions available in the help menu of IE. Another easy step is to use the Microsoft’s Automated work-around. Just clicking on ‘Fix This Problem’ on THIS page would automatically disable ActiveX on the IE.
Other ways to avoid falling prey to some hackers is to use another web browser like Firefox 3.5 or Chrome. Both these browsers do not use ActiveX.
