India to have more cellphone base than US in 2008

Indiais already the worlds fastest growing mobile market, with 60.35 million newwireless users in April-November. According to figures released, Indiaadded a record 8.3 million wireless users in November, taking the total base to 225.5 million. According to COAI officials, United States had 250 million subscribers at the same time. In all probability India(growing at approx 8 million a month) will overtake US in early 2008.
It is expected that there will be more than 500million telephone users in Indiaby 2010. Bharti Airtel Ltd, with nearly 53 million subscribers in November, isthe top mobile firm in India,followed by Reliance Communications Ltd, which had 39.4 million customers atthe end of the month. Other leading players include Vodafone-controlledVodafone Essar Ltd, state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam, Tata Teleservices and IdeaCellular.
