Intex has launched yet another phone in India and this phone belongs to its Aqua series. The phone is called the Aqua Y2 Remote and as its name suggests, the device can double up as a remote for appliances such as Televisions, Set Top Boxes, Air Conditioners, etc. A user of this phone will have to use the in-built ZaZa application and connect it to the product that he wants. This application then saves the model number of the product and one can configure the features that it wants to be synced. The company too is promoting this as the main feature of the phone.
The phone has a 4 inch display with the resolution of 800×480 pixels. It is packed with 512 MB RAM and runs on a 1.2GHz, Dual Core processor. The 4GB of internal storage can be expanded upto 32GB by using a microSD card. The rear camera has a 5 Megapixel sensor with a LED Flash while the front camera has a 2 Megapixel sensor. The device is powered by a 1500mAh battery. It runs Android KitKat (4.4.2) and there is no confirmation from the company as to if and when the phone will get the Android Lollipop update.
The company also recently brought out the Aqua Star L which is the first phone by an Indian brand that is shipped with Android Lollipop (5.0). But this phone is available exclusively on Snapdeal in black and white colours. It is good that Indian manufacturers are taking Android system updates seriously because earlier most of their phones used to never get updates. The reason for this change maybe due to the competition from other international brands. Many of those brands give updates to their low cost phones too. For example, Motorola is working on the Lollipop update for their Moto E which today costs as low as Rs. 6,000. Intex had also released the Aqua Desire this month and that phone too is for the budget conscious consumers.
