Update: This went official with the Droid
The most amazing thing about the way Google does business is that all of their products are offered free to the end user. Starting from Google search to the latest android OS, Google finds new ways of operating while still keeping their product free. If there is one set of people who are greatly affected by this strategy is Google’s competitors, especially those that are already established in their respective fields. Google is all set to rearrange another section of the technology industry – navigation.
The latest rumors says that Google is working on a navigation app for its Android platform, and the rumors add that this product – like other Google services – is going to be free. The speculations arise from the fact that Google has been taking keen interest in collecting map data. Also, the soon-to-be-released Droid (featuring Android OS) is rumored to include a turn-by-turn free navigation application.
Internet gossip has chalked this latest Google product to be called “Google Navigator”, and is expected to be introduced somewhere in 2010 real soon. The speculations may compliment each other and Google may really be working on the navigation app, but still there is no solid fact or leak that proves the same. We can be sure of one thing though: this navigation app will be free and can really worry existing players offering similar products.
