Kodak sues Apple, RIM over camera phones patent

Yesterday we read about Google’s superphone Nexusone being sued. Today we woke up to the news of the bunch of best selling smartphones being sued. Kodak whose revenues have been consistently dropping has decided to make some quick bucks by suing Apple and RIM.

Kodak shares have risen by over two pc. since Thursday after the news of suing Apple and RIM went public; wherein they claim that iPhone and Blackberry improperly use the image previewing technology. Kodak has filed two lawsuits in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York preventing Apple and RIM from using the technology without approval.

Apple and RIM have made no comments stating they do not comment on litigations.

Kodak, which was hit hard by the economic downturn is using its patent portfolio to generate some revenue. In October, Kodak stated that they were expecting around $250 to $350  in licensing revenues. Kodak said they were expecting compensation from Apple in return for the use of the technology and are open to talks.

Kodak has made similar such agreements with Motorola, Sony and Panasonic as well as settled some patent suits with LG and Samsung in the recent weeks.
