LG To Make MeeGo Smartphones?

Ever since Nokia decided on Windows Phone to be the OS of choice for its next generation smartphones, it not only struck the death knell for old warrior Symbian, but also derailed Nokia’s MeeGo project that it had conjured up during the pre Stephe Elop days. However, there’s new hope for the beleaguered platform after Korean phonemaker LG made a surprised decision to join a MeeGo group that is expected to make a new smartphone OS based on Linux.

According to Intel’s Valtteri Halla, Nokia’s much publicized exit is allowing other interested players to come in and it seems LG wants to take this opportunity to do what Nokia was supposed to do.The Interesting bit about all this is the fact that Valtteri Halla happens to be an ex Nokia employee. He resigned from the company after Nokia decided to go down the WP7 path.

Do you think LG would do a good job of making MeeGo based phones? Let us not forget that LG has a fair bit of experience with MeeGo already. Remember the GW990 Intel Moorestown based MID from LG ? That ran Moblin OS – the predecessor to what is now known as MeeGo
