Micromax Launches 2 in 1 LapTab for Rs. 14,999

Canvas LapTabMicromax, the Indian smartphone maker has aggressively increasing its smartphone share in the market for the last year. The company has been in the news for outselling Samsung and being the top selling manufacturer in the county. Earlier this year the Indian manufacturer launched a subsidiary YU Televentures which set the market on fire with the popular Yu Yureka mobile phone. Now they have ventured into yet another segment, the sector of mobile computing.

Micromax has launched the Canvas LapTab in India, a product similar to something that was showcased at CES 2014. The LapTab is company’s first such device and is priced at Rs 14,999. It is a 2 in 1 device and comes with a detachable keyboard and just like the Yu Yureka will be an Amazon Exclusive product. The LapTab has a 10.1 inch touchscreen with a resolution of 1280×800 pixels. The device is powered by a 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z3735F processor, the Quad Core processor also has Burst Mode where it can scale up to 1.83GHz when required. It has 2GB of DDR3L RAM which is low energy RAM and may help to keep the power consumption low on the device. It sports 32GB of internal memory which can be expanded via a microSD card slot. The company offers 1TB of Cloud storage on Microsoft’s OneDrive and 1 year free subscription to Microsoft Office 365.

The LapTab features a 2 megapixel fixed focus camera at the back and a 2 megapixel  front facing camera. In terms of software, the device runs on Windows 8.1 Hybrid and should be upgradable to Windows 10 when it is available. The hybrid OS allows the device to be used in both Laptop and Tablet mode. There is a 7700mAh battery on board which Micromax claims can power the device for 10 hours of use. The device measures 210.8 x 124.2 x9.95mm and weighs 1.1 kgs. There are similar products from Asus that have almost the same specifications and run Windows 8.1.

In terms of connectivity the device has WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, 3G and the keyboard also has a USB port. The device is priced low when compared to other similar devices. Maybe Micromax is using the same aggressive pricing strategy they used for the Yu Yureka.
