Microsoft Wants To Kill Internet Explorer 6

This might sound weird but the fact is, Microsoft has set up a website http://ie6countdown.com as part of a campaign to urge people to stop using its aged, 10 year old browser, Internet Explorer 6. With Microsoft having moved on to Internet Explorer 9 (Beta), it seems it wants its old warrior – now rendered outdated, to be relegated to the history books.

Internet Explorer 6 strangely, still commands a phenomenal 12 percent of global browser market share. A large chunk of the users are from China which seems to be full of computers running Windows XP which came with IE6 preinstalled.  India too has a large number of IE 6 users who are yet to move on to newer browsers.

Another concern area for Microsoft has been corporate users who say that they use Internet Explorer 6 because they have to for work. Microsoft says that it has set up resources and workshops for these users to move on to more reliable and secure versions of the browser.

Like Microsoft, we too think it’s time people said good bye to the good ol’ IE6. Most modern browsers of today offer a host of features and are inherently more secure than IE6. If you know anyone STILL using IE6, be a good Samaritan and offer him/her some much needed help I say.
