Motorola CEO hints at Android tablet in Q1 2011, Gingerbread?

Motorola was the one who stole the show with Android 2.1 earlier this year (Droid!) and it seems that they want to be the first ones to make good use of the upcoming Android 3.0 (aka Gingerbread) that is said to be optimized for tablets aswell. Previous rumors had suggest that Motorola is looking to push out a tablet for Verizon before year end, however Sanjay Jha (Motorola CEO) in a recent comment highlighted that it would only be in 2011 that Motorola comes out with a tablet.

“I will only develop a tablet if it is sufficiently compelling. Hopefully, that is early next year.”

I have seen comparisons to the Samsung Galaxy Tab already and I feel its unfair to blame Motorola for a 2011 launch as they are looking for a proper 10″ tablet and not a over-sized phone structure like the Galaxy Tab. The competition IMO still remains the iPad (2nd gen?) and how well Android 3.0 competes would be the key.

PS: Isn’t Motorola the same company that promised a 2GHz phone before year end and the next Google phone?
