And They Continue, Motorola Xoom Over-clocked @ 1.7GHz

A couple of weeks back we had seen the rooted Motorola Xoom being over-clocked to 1.6GHz and as the news flows in today, its 1.7GHz now. While I try to figure why you would want to give so much emphasis on CPU speeds, RAM etc, when the software loaded on it takes almost 2 seconds to just change the screen orientation as you move from portrait to landscape or landscape to portrait mode.

At 1.7GHz the benchmark tests on the Xoom hit a home run with SunSpider Javascript test on the browser returning 1480ms (compared to over 2000ms on stock) and Quadrant scores roughly around 5,000 (compare that with most phones performing below 2000).  The Motorola Xoom has had its troubles and slow movement in the market, but it still remains a hot property for developers playing with Honeycomb.

If you are frustrated with the slow sluggish Honeycomb 3.1 on your Xoom, guess it’s time to experiment with a little boost? Remember, unstable hardware, losing warranty cover and bricking device are some of the hazards of over-clocking. All the best!
