New iPad with Retina Display, Quad-core graphics chip with a dual core A5X processor

The wait for the new iPad is finally over and as expected most of the predictions made by our team of the new iPad from Apple have turned out to be true. Rarely do so many expectations about an Apple product are bang on target. We have the actual specs of the ‘The new iPad’ and they do not disappoint, lets have a look…

Retina Display:

As expected the new iPad gets the Retina display at a resolution of 2048 x 1536. It boasts of a whopping 3.1 million pixels with 264 pixels per inch, which is slightly lesser than the 326 pixels per inch display of the iPhone 4/4S. But in comparison to its predecessor it is  said to have a 40% better color saturation.

iSight Camera:

The improved camera of the new iPad is called iSight. New iPad boasts of a 5MP camera with backside illuminated sensor on the back, 5-element lens, IR filter, and ISP built into the A5X chip. The camera also boasts of auto-focus, auto-exposure and records videos ant 1080p i.e. full HD. It also has a stabilization software to improve the quality of your videos. It essentially has almost same features as the camera on the iPhone 4S, albeit with slightly lesser MP’s here. See output from the iPad 5MP camera

A5x Processor:

A5With the New iPad, Apple started shipping its own chips. The iPad 1 had the A4 and A5 debuted with the iPad 2. The new iPad gets a muscled dual-core processor called the A5X with a quad-core graphics chip. The new A5X is said to be “twice as fast” and “four times the performance” when compared to the Tegra 3.

Siri on iPad? Dictation!

The new iPad has a toned down version of Siri, which currently supports only dictation. Located on the extreme left of the keyboard in the form of a microphone key is the voice dictation feature which supports English (US, British, Australian), French, German and Japanese for now.

Connectivity – 4G LTE

On the connectivity front, the new iPad is 4G LTE enabled and has 21Mbps HSPA+ and DC-HSDPA at 42Mbps, with LTE at 73Mbps. Verizon, Rogers, Bell, Telus and AT&T will be the LTE partners for the new iPad. And it is 3G world ready. The new iPad has the most wireless bands that has ever shipped. If that wasn’t enough the new iPad also allows you to create Personal Hotspot as well.

Battery Life, With LTE?

The battery life on the new iPad is slightly better lasting up to 10 hours of battery life for usage and 9 hours on 4G, the iPad 2 on the other hand gave 9 hours on 3G.

Dimensions:

The new iPad is slightly bulkier compared to the iPad 2 at 9.4mm and weighs a little more at 1.4lbs (652g / 662g)

Pricing and Availability:

The new iPad is priced at $499 for 16GB, $599 for 32GB and $699 for 64GB for the 3G+Wi-Fi versions, while 4G+Wi-Fi versions are available for $629 for 16GB, $729 for 32GB and $829 for 64GB. The new iPad is available for pre-order starting today itself and will start shipping in a select few countries i.e. US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Japan from 16th March as part of the first wave. The product from thereon would be made available globally from the 23rd of March.
