Google’s Nexus S – Google’s flagship Gingerbread Android 2.3 device and also the successor of the Google Nexus One, will finally be available in India with a price tag of  Rs. 27999. It’s available on Flipkart for pre-order right now. The Google Nexus S has been out in the wild for more than two months now and it is a major hit amongst the Android developers. It also happens to be the first Andriod device to have Near Field Communication (NFC) capabilities. The phone boast of  16 Gb iNand Flash internal memory and of course, a  three – axis gyro sensor.

Watch the Unboxing :

The Nexus S is a perfect device for Android developers out there as the bootloader of the Nexus S can be unlocked easily.  Also, it does not have a micro SD card slot – a factor that would enable the developers to understand the file structure of the device and create applications for these kind of phones. It also runs the latest Android 2.3.3 version. The new NFC feature has also been added so the developers can play around with the NFC APIs provided by Google in the Andriod SDK.

We also would like to tell you that this device is extremely fast thanks to the ARM Cortex A8 1GHz Hummingbird Processor manufactured by Samsung. It also sports one of the most powerful GPUs out there – the PowerVR SGX540 GPU which is also used in the upcoming LG Optimus 3D and believe it or not –  this GPU can be pushed upto 90 million triangles per second which will allow you to watch Full HD 1080p without any lag!

Another good thing with the launch of this device is that  you will be receiving the updates directly from Google itself and you don’t have to wait for the manufacturer to put in their UI or any other add on and then release it to the masses, so you will always be on the latest software that Google releases.

Why should you buy the Google Nexus S ?

We would like to divide this section into two ports which will be from a developer’s point of view and also from a consumers point of view.

From a Developer’s point of view

  • This device comes with iNand Flash internal memory which will be very responsive
  • With the powerful GPU the devs can test and create 3D applications and also use the Open GL ES 2.0 support enabled by Google
  • The sensor APIs like gyroscope, rotation vector, linear acceleration, gravity and barometer can easily be supported on the Nexus S where as there will be a lag on the other devices which are currently available in the market
  • The device has an unlockable bootloader which can easily be unlocked with just a click and then you can use your device as the root and also experiment with various other ROMs available like the ones from YES!! Cyanogenmod (Official CM7 support)
  • Well there are many other features for you to find out

Consumer’s point of view

  • 16 GB Internal Memory
  • SLCD screen
  • 480 x 800 pixels resolution
  • 4” display
  • 5 MP rear Camera, VGA front camera
  • 1500 mAh battery
  • 3D games
  • Official updates from Google
  • Full HD 1080p playback
  • Blazing fast device
  • Fastest browser experience
  • Push mail, Facebook updates
  • MULTITASKING
  • WiFi Hotspot

This is a promising device both performance wise and also in terms of looks. This device can also be called a future proof device as it’s Google’s own and also an unofficial developer’s phone. This means that there will be official and dev support for quite some time in the future. The Nexus S was also benchmarked together with the Motorola Atrix, Optimus 2x and other phones and was placed second only after Optimus 2x in terms of sheer performance. The Optimus 2x mind you, runs a dual core Tegra 2 processor. The Nexus S managed to trump the Atrix which also has a more powerful Tegra 2 processor – a commendable achievement!
