Nokia Debuts The Asha 310; Dual SIM laden Entry-level Handset

In yet another new launch aimed at the mass market, Nokia has just announced the brand new Asha 310. The device is the first from the Asha series to come with both – dual SIM capability and built in Wi-Fi. Nokia claims that the Asha 310 has “Dual SIM on steroids.”. While that might sound revolutionary, its just Nokia’s way of telling us that it gets the Easy Swap technology which makes the procedure of swapping a SIM very easy.

Unlike “normal” Dual SIM handsets in which both the SIM cards are nestled under the battery, in the Asha 310, only one SIM rests under the battery. The second SIM is hot swappable and can be removed or inserted without the user having to turn the phone off. The phone also gets a SIM manager tool using which users can assign unique profiles for up to five SIM cards.

Lets see what other features this device boasts of, We start with the display which on this device is a 3 inch touchscreen panel with a resolution of 240*400 (WQVGA). There is no support for 3G sadly – and it supports only GSM/EDGE 900/1800 networks. Internal memory is a paltry 20 MB which means you will have to use micro SD cards to expand it. The phone tips the scales at just over 103 grams. Connectivity options are pretty comprehensive for a handset of this class with support for WiFi GPRS/EDGE, Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP support, Micro USB 2.0 connector, 3.5 mm AV connector, USB and 2mm pin charging.

The phone offers up to 25 days of standby and up to 17 hours talk-time. The phone comes loaded with 40 EA games that the user can download for free with the device. Nokia Maps also comes preloaded.

Nokia has said that the Asha 310 will be available in Asia, India, the Middle East, Africa and Brazil from Q1 2013. The price is expected to be around the Rs. 5000 mark ($102)
