Nokia E63 Review – First Look
November 28th, 2008 by Annkur

E63 is very similar to the Nokia E71 with not much difference between them. Both handsets run on Symbian OS 9.2 S60 version 3.2, and are almost identical in shape/design. However the E63 would come significantly cheaper to the E71. Somehow this gives me a feeling that its price competition that Nokia wants to bring in. With the domiance of Blackberries in QWERTY’s and also the rising popularity of the iPhone and Windows Mobiles, Nokia needs to enter this segment with multiple option. Nokia has always relied on the numbers game. It rests on its worldwide depth to maintain its dominance in the cellphone industry. In developing nations like India, it has over a dozen models priced below Rs 8000. Hitting the nail right on the head!
Notable changed in the E63 compared to E71:
- lacks GPS and HSDPA
- Plastic built
- Touch sensitive Naviwheel (As seen in N85)
- Better battery: 432 hours standby and 11 hours talktime
- Some believe that the keyboard is much more crisp compared to E71
- Marginal difference in weight. E63 is 126gms
Though E63 is said to be a cheaper version of the E71, it looks pretty good to me. It offers 3G, GPRS, EDGE, Wi-Fi, A2DP Bluetooth & Infrared as connectivity options. For most users in developing countries GPS isn’t a necessity and here in India we are still waiting for 3G, so HSDPA is certainly not significant.
A standard 2MP camera with Flash and sleeker design compared to my E61i makes it an ideal upgrade (Cost effective too). So for all those who feel E71 gets a little expensive, E63 fills in the gap. RIP E61i.
More on E63 soon – as we are yet to get our hands on it
