Nokia lawsuit against Apple

Nokia vs iPhone

All ye Apple fanboys (or iPhone lovers): time to draw your swords to defend your beloved Jesus-phone maker! This time the battle line will be drawn against Nokia.

According to Finland’s Nokia, Apple has infringed patents on mobile phone technology that are being used in the iPhone. The alleged Nokia patents that have been “stolen” include those for GSM, UMTS and wireless LAN (WLAN) standards.

Considering that the iPhone has had a continually-growing user base since its launch in 2007, it seems like Nokia is trying to cash in on that success and grab a piece of the revenue pie generated by the high number of iPhone handsets sold. I’m sure suing a leading technology company isn’t the best way to refill your money reserve after having spent EUR 40 billion – as Nokia has done in R&D over the past two decades.

Looks like Nokia isn’t really interested in finding out the reason behind customers switching out from using their handsets, or at least making better smartphone models to avoid the change in loyalities. Or maybe Nokia is considering any coverage on this lawsuit as publicity to generate interest among users and potential smartphone buyers, and get them to think “gee I’m getting iPhone-like technology but for the ‘lovely’ Nokia pricing”.

You be the judge.
