Nokia Lumia 1320: The Poor Man’s Windows Phone Phablet

Along with the Lumia 1520, Nokia also announced the official existence of yet another 6 inch phablet at Nokia World yesterday. We are talking about the Lumia 1320 – which is basically a stripped down version of the 1520 for emerging markets. So what are the differences between the two? Let’s find out!

Display and Processor
To start with, the Lumia 1320 gets a 720p (1280*720) pixels display instead of the full HD panel seen on the 1520. Interestingly, according to the official spec sheet, while the Lumia 150 gets a Gorilla Glass 2 coating, the Lumia 1320 seems to be getting the newer version of it – Gorilla Glass 3! Weird. The display on the 1320 also lacks Nokia’s much talked about Clear Black Technology.
The processor on the Lumia 1320 happens to be the mid range Snapdragon 400 chip that is positioned below the high end Snapdragon 600 and 800 chips. This runs at 1.7 Ghz and has dual cores running in tandem. There s 1 GB of RAM that shouldn’t at least in theory affect the performance of the usually nimble Windows Phone platform.

Optics & Storage

The Lumia 1320 gets a 5 megapixel main autofocus camera with flash – which is quite a trade off from the 20 megapixel PureView camera on the 1520. This camera can also record videos in full HD resolution at 30fps. There is a VGA front camera as well for basic video calling.

As for storage, the Lumia 1320 boasts of 8GB of internal memory which can be expanded further using micro SD cards of up to 64GB capacity. Then of course, there is the 7GB of SkyDrive storage for all you cloud users.

Software and Apps
The Lumia 1320 currently runs Windows Phone 8 with the latest updates and is also highly likely to get the update to GDR3 – previewed a few days ago. The device comes with a free subscription for Nokia Music and HERE Maps.

Connectivity
The Lumia 1320, like its faster cousin, the 1520 supports almost all major GSM and 3G bands. It also gets support for 4G LTE. Apart from this, there is support for all these common short range wireless protocols – BT 4.0 + LE, Micro-USB 2.0, 3.5mm AHJ, WIFI 802.11(2.4GHz b/g/n). Under the hood is a 3400 mAH integrated battery that like its expensive cousin should help you through an entire day of moderate usage.

Price and Availability
The Lumia 1320 is expected to be launched by early 2014 initially in China and Vietnam followed by other Asian markets. India too is on the radar inthe second phase of the launch. The official price without taxes and subsidies is currently pegged at USD 339 – which translates to around Rs. 20,000
