Nokia shifting gears, trying to make smarter smartphones :P

nokian97-2Apple iPhone, Palm PRe, Blackberrry – No points for guessing that the smartphone market is hot. Nokia is certainly looking to catchup on the mobile internet and smartphone space. With its competitors getting the best of addons and services; Nokia doesn’t want to be left far behind. Recent news titles relating Nokia clearly shows that the company is focusing marjorly on the software front to counter the increasing competition (Read: Android, OSx iPhone, WinMo etc).

Nokia recently made public the OVI Store that would bring apps to Nokia smartphones just like the Apple Appstore does. This would really streamline the 100000′s symbian Apps all over the www. The first device to get an intergrated OVI Store would be the N97.

Nokia is already discussing Facebook integration in its smartphones. Facebook has already seen mega adoption by iPhone users and PalmPre hopes to get a boost from Facebook integration aswell. Nokia hopes to do something very similar to what Palm has done with Facebook: Sync the Phone data with the online Facebook data!

The latest announcement being the integration of Skype on Nokia handsets. This would allow users to utilize 3G network and WiFi connections to make free internet calls. Again debuts with the N97!

Nokia is banking heavy on N97 that would come out in June. No matter what is the fate of N97, we know that the future devices from Nokia are going to be much more connected-www.
