Nokia to release dual-sim handsets by Q2 2010?
December 18th, 2009 by Kunal

The chief editor of Russian website Mobile-Review, Eldar Murtazin, has tweeted about Nokia’s plan to launch dual-sim handsets by the second quarter of 2010. The number of devices and the type of handsets has not been mentioned. Murtazin did mention that the handsets would be mid-end phones. Murtazin also stated that the news has been confirmed by Victor Saeijs, Nokia’s vice-president.
Dual-sim handsets became quite popular in the Asian market due to the introduction of Chinese mobiles. Large phone manufacturers like Samsung and now Nokia have shown interest in the dual-sim segment due to its recent popularity in these markets. While Nokia’s warning against Chinese phones didn’t work, I believe that dual-sim handsets from Nokia complimented by the recent ban on phone’s with bad IMEI in India has a chance. But with existing players like Samsung playing it tough with a dual sim offering for as low as Rs 2200 (<$50), Nokia has competition already. Not to forget the small players like Lemon Mobile and Micromax going somewhat aggressive to attract the low-end consumers, I am quite interested in seeing what strategy Nokia applies to the situation.
