Nokia’s new patent takes multi-touch to the next level
October 26th, 2009 by Kunal

Nokia is known for being the first movers in introducing and adapting new technologies into their devices. The company has now filed for a new patent that could add an important new functionality to touchscreen devices.
According to the patent, screens will incorporate a pressure sensor along with a capacitive touchscreen. So now the device will measure the amount of pressure you apply onto the touchscreen along with the finger movement. The amount of pressure could be used to assign different functions, such as a double-click for a stronger press on the screen.
The use of this patented technology is endless – starting from double-clicks on web pages to drag and drop to introducing new gaming styles. Though it would take a lot of time before devices utilizing this technology are available. If this patent gets approved, this technology can end up becoming a must-have for any device with a touchscreen, especially Nokia devices.
