oneplus-one-64gbThe much awaited flagship killer, the OnePlus One goes on sale in India starting today. The phone has a killer pricing of Rs. 21,999 for the 64GB variant. The One sports a 5.5 inch Full HD display with the pixel density of 401 PPI. It is packed with 3GB of RAM and runs on a 2.5GHz, Snapdragon 800, Quad Core processor. It comes with 64GB internal storage which is not expandable. With regards to camera, it has a 13 Megapixel rear camera and a 5 Megapixel front camera. The rear camera does HD video recording and the front camera is good for people who like click self portraits. The battery has 3100mAh power. On paper, this phone has very high end specs and is great value for money.

Since, last year we have seen many international companies launch phones at reasonable prices. Motorola’s Moto G was one of the most sold phones in India thanks to the specs it offered for the price. This year we also saw the rise of Xiaomi in India. Xiaomi launched the Mi3 and the Redmi 1s and had flash sales for them. Now towards the end of this year, they have released the Redmi Note too. The One runs on CyanogenMod (CM) but after the CM–Micromax deal, the phones sold in India won’t get further updates and also won’t sport the CM logo on its back.

OnePlus was founded in China in December, 2013 by Pete Lau who was the Vice President of OPPO. It remains to be seen if OnePlus continues with CM phones in India as reports suggest that they are planning their own skin which maybe ready by February 2015. All in all, it is a great phone for the price and will create further competition in the market. Most flagships from other companies cost much more, so this phone should do well.
