OnePlus To Have Their Own OxygenOS Soon

Lately there has been a lot going on with Cyanogen Inc and OnePlus. A public spat between the two made it obvious that end to their partnership is near and imminent. All these speculations were put to rest yesterday (30th of January) with OnePlus announcing that they are all set to introduce their homegrown ROM, the OxygenOS on February 12th. It should be noted that OnePlus is only to put out some more details about it and not launch it on 12th. This news comes after OnePlus being tied up with the CyanogenMod OS for about a year now.

According to the post by OnePlus, their ROM – the OxygenOS, will be free of any unnecessary features and bloatware. Not many details were given out about the OS but one can only see it to be a basic AOSP based ROM with some enhancements. Not much on OxygenOS will only create more hype and a series of rumors for OnePlus.

OnePlus One has already reached Indian grounds. But OnePlus is still holding its plans about the first iteration of the OxygenOS to be offered to the Indian market. But this will happen soon given the fact that company’s OnePlus One smartphone has stopped receiving any updates from Cyanogen. This occurred because Cyanogen has signed an exclusivity bond with Micromax for the Indian market. Also, OnePlus announced no plans about the OxygenOS being available to the North American users and the rest parts of the world at once or in phases.

Never ending spat between OnePlus and Cyanogen Inc extended with OnePlus taking off the Cyanogen branding from the back panel of its smartphones. But for now the phones still ship with CyanogenMod. This can be seen as a good move as OnePlus is reluctant to put out a buggy version of OxygenOS and kill its mojo.

On the other hand there are talks about Microsoft intending to invest in Cyanogen Inc to ‘take Android away from Google’. Now it will be interesting to watch the developments of both the upcoming players in the market. With the announcement of OxygenOS, OnePlus has grabbed a lot of expectations to deliver a hassle free ROM void of major bugs.
