Thanks to the Holiday season, it has been raining discounts with just about every major game developer offering games at lower than usual rates. We have been royally spoilt for choice this time around with the likes of EA, Glu and Gameloft offering some terrific games at less than a dollar in the App Store. So to make things easier for you, we have cherry picked what we think are the ten best sub-dollar apps for your Christmas app shopping. Here, are our top ten $0.99 games for the iPhone/iPod touch this Christmas. Do feel free to send us yours!
In our minds, quite simply the best racing game on the iPhone. Stunning graphics and great controls and if you happen to have the new iPhone or iPod touch, it will look flat out brilliant. Might struggle a bit on older devices, though.
For serious golf fans, the game does not get better than this with very realistic graphics and physics. Tiger may have lost his touch, but this game still rocks. Note: if you are not a golf enthusiast, either steer clear or be ready to be really patient.
And this is the game for those who want nothing more than a terrific go at those golf courses. Mind you, the cartoony look of the game does disguise some excellent gameplay. Not quite in the class of PGA Tour, but very good for those who want nothing more than a terrific…ahhh, we already said that!
Do not give us those looks about this being an older game. We are still very much in love with creating life and organisms, especially when the experience comes for less than a dollar.
Pure basketball magic. Great graphics and waaay easier to play than on some of those consoles. At $0.99, this is one slam dunk you do not want to miss.
We can sense the hackles of EA fans rising already but when it came to choosing between Real Football and EA’s FIFA series, Real came out on top thanks to its better gameplay. Honestly, we think Pro Evo Football 2011 is the best of the lot, but then THOSE folks have not got the game down to sub-dollar territory. An acute lack of Christmas cheer, eh?
This golden oldie still rules as the ultimate word puzzle game. Addictive, as ever, and almost as good as the board experience – sometimes even better!
A terrific empire building experience at less than a dollar. Our conquering hearts could not have asked for more. Gather food, make settlements, raise armies and of course, go ahead and smite yer neighbours and grab their land. Does not sound in line with Christmas, but ah, what a game!
For us, it remains the ultimate city building strategy game. Just be patient and learn the ropes and then get set for hours and hours of entertainment as you try to administer a city of your own.
The ulitmate god playing game. Create your own people, neighbourhoods and well, sit back and watch the fun, and meddle away just as much as you wish!
